The Elements tab includes a list of each component or element of your invention and the location of each component on each of your figures. This is the heart of the PatentEase program. The information entered on this Window is critical for generating your claims and should be completed before beginning the Detailed Description.
First, begin by clicking on the "Add Element" Command Button. This results in the Element Window popping up.
Elements may be removed by highlighting the specific element and then clicking on "Remove Element." The up and down arrows allow you to move an element, once highlighted, up or down along the list of elements. We encourage you to list the elements as they appear on your drawings from the top down or the bottom up, starting with a major component, such as a base, a housing, a frame, etc.
For each element that you define and describe, you can click on the Element list to highlight it and then right-click on the Figure to place the reference indicator. The appropriate reference number, with lead line, will appear on the image. Changing the direction of the lead line is as easy as dragging the reference number or reference line to a different location on your screen.
NOTE: Upon selecting each element, the figure may change to highlight associated references.
The button labeled Actual Size/Stretch to Fit toggles between a full view of the figure and a scaled rendition of the figure sized to fit the window. In the case of a large image, the horizontal and vertical scroll bars around the image can be used to locate particular portions of the drawing. When used in conjunction with highlighted elements in the element list, the button labeled Show All/Hide All indicates the location of all references or just the references associated with the selected element.
